Letters: All Harbor District incumbents should be voted out |
I am writing this letter in response to the upcoming elections for the Crescent City Harbor District. It is important that we move on to some new people and fresh ideas at the Crescent City Harbor District. It is time for all of the incumbents to be voted out of office. For the past five or more years the harbor commissioners have engaged in the practice of ignoring some tenants while they continue to take big losses on others. Some tenants cannot even get on the agenda, while others continue to be subsidized. During the past few years we have lost the dive shop, the Captain's Table restaurant, the Fisherman's Grotto restaurant, the abalone farm, and now the harbor has its sights on the RV park and art gallery. There are businesses in the harbor at this time who would love to invest in their businesses but cannot do so because the harbor refuses to negotiate for lease extensions. They fail to recognize that the largest single source of ready investment in the harbor is the very tenants who have been paying their salaries and health care for the past years. Please consider this when you vote on Nov 4: Look at the condition of the harbor. All of the incumbent commissioners are responsible for that condition; many have been on the board for eight-plus years. It is time to move on with some fresh ideas and perspectives. Please vote out all incumbents in the Harbor District this Nov. 4. Chris Van Hook Crescent City |
