Letters: Vote for the challengersin Harbor Commission race |
The current status of our harbor as a working facility is rapidly going downhill. Maintenance and improvements are being neglected and, most critical for the harbor, no dredging. The current commissioners have had their opportunity to bring the harbor up to a better standard and have not succeeded. The list of businesses lost to both attempted and successful hostile takeovers of harbor tenants includes The Dive Shop, the Captain's Table and the Fisherman's Grotto. Soon to follow is the vacation RV Park and the local arts group (which owns its building, but was not given consideration for that fact in the new lease it was offered). Boats have left. Poor tenant and landlord relations have been a hallmark of the current commissioners. Diverse, interesting and attractive establishments complement the core of our harbor, which is undoubtedly the fleet. Driving out these other people does not benefit the community. Check out the candidates who are not incumbents and be sure to vote. Garretta Lamore Crescent City |
