Letters: Not a good time to create new taxes |
This isn't a good time to create new taxes for a school bond. The economy is in bad shape. People are struggling to buy gas, food and medicine. Why did the school district and board build the new fancy resource building on Harding while ignoring the problems in our children's schools? Now they want more money to spend, so they created a wish list of pet projects. For $25 million we should be getting something really good, like a new modern high school. This would benefit our community a lot more than a list of pet projects. Now is not a good time to borrow money, especially when it's $25 million. Think how much money we will be throwing away in high-interest payments. Vote "no." Tell the school district to resubmit a different bond measure next year for a new high school or a smaller wish list of pet projects with limitations on what they can do. We don't have to rush into committing to a bond. We can do better for our children and our community. Vote "no" on Measure A. Charleen Williams Crescent City |
