Letters: Chief Plack is genuine, down-to-earth, considerate |
I gave this letter some thought. This letter is what it is and I feel obligated to write it. How do you describe the chief of police without giving the appearance of something self-serving? I had to put that feeling aside. I have known Chief Plack for several years. He is a down to earth individual who genuinely makes you feel comfortable and at ease, without giving the impression of anything inappropriate. Several years ago Chief Plack approached me and let me know that if there was anything he could do to support the Special Olympics, he was there. He has never given any inclination that there was something in it for him other than the pleasure of supporting this population of people. Chief Plack and his officers have literally waited tables for "tips" for our local program. This fundraiser pays for our bowling season. We have 25 athletes that participate in our bowling program alone. Thank you Chief Plack and his officers! Chief Plack also supported the Special Olympics in Colorado. Chief Plack is also understanding with this population of people in more quiet ways. When I have had conversations with him about any special needs person who may have a law enforcement issue, he let it be known to his officers that there were mediating circumstances, not excusing or allowing the issue to go unpunished, just understanding the situation a little better. On a personal note I have had a teenager in trouble and have dealt with city officers; like any parent, you want to protect your child from themselves. Even when I knew my son was wrong and felt scared for him, I knew the officers were doing their jobs. Chief Plack's officers have always been courteous and respectful; I'd say that's good leadership. The bottom line is Chief Plack is an asset to our community. They say good leadership draws people to them; Chief Plack has drawn in my support. I hope that any issues the city Police Department is going through will be quietly and quickly resolved. Kim Yost Crescent City |
