Letters: Sanches: Told to keep mouth shut about financial issues |
Hello, those of you that I may not have had the pleasure to meet. I am Joei Sanches. Yes, I am a whistleblower on many issues such as the illegal increase in sewer rates which the acting city attorney, Bob Black, told me to keep my mouth shut about it when I was director of finance. Here are some other things that citizens of Crescent City may not know: the state is not reimbursing the city over $2.8 million dollars for the wastewater treatment plant. This is how much more the city spent on the project that was not allowable by the state. Also, Bob Black is right in his letter ("Major conflict of interest if Sanches wins clerk race," Nov. 1). I was not the one who discovered the illegal annuity issue in 2006. I was just following the directive from Richard, Watson and Gershon during the investigation. That is, to retrieve the illegal annuity money and return it to the general fund. No, I did not discover the illegal annuity issue that Black filed suit on in December of 2007; I discovered all the other illegal stuff and (former city attorney) Dohn Henion's improper PERS.
