Obituary: Olympia Rodgers (July 28, 1911 - July 5, 2009)

Olympia Rodgers passed away in Athens, Ga., on July 5, 2009, at the age of 97 years. Mrs. Rodgers was a Del Norte County native, being born on July 28, 1911, in Crescent City, where she was a long time resident till several years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Rodgers. One of Olympia’s favorite hobbies and pastimes was crocheting. She was a member of the Elk Valley Community Club, St. Joseph Catholic Parish, and was a past president of the Crescent City Emblem Club. Olympia enjoyed serving as a volunteer at the Del Norte Senior Center for many years. She is survived by her brother, Bobby Lesina and sister, Lillian Russell both of Crescent City; her daughters, Betty Jackson of Comer, Ga., and Charlene Shuey of LaPine, Ore.; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.   Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 10, 2009, 10 a.m. at the family plot of Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Crescent City. Family prefers contributions in her memory be made to the Del Norte Senior Center 1765 Northcrest Drive Crescent City, CA 95531. Arrangements are under the directions of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
