Missouri man struck by another tourist in Klamath |
A 61-year-old Missouri man videotaping a vehicle drive through a redwood at the Tour-Thru Tree attraction in Klamath was sent to a hospital with moderate injuries after being hit by a van driven by another tourist. According to a California Highway Patrol collision report, Vern E. Sword Jr. of Hume, Mo., had set up a tripod and camera to capture a vehicle driving through the base of a redwood tree on Saturday. While Sword was recording the scene, a van driven by a Wisconsin woman who had just passed through the tree backed into him with enough force to send him over a fence and down an embankment. The CHP report stated that after Irene W. Martin, 22, of Stratford, Wis., had driven through the tree, she was not able to complete a right hand turn to exit the area without having to back up her van. That’s when she struck Sword. The Klamath Fire Department and Cal Fire responded to the scene, and an ambulance transported Sword to Sutter Coast Hospital. As of Monday Sword was still at the hospital in stable condition. |
