The squad fell to Paradise 10-0 Tuesday night in the title match.
Del Norte head coach Rick White said that to his knowledge this was the furthest any Del Norte Little League softball team had gone in section play, and they are the first to make it to a section title game.
White said the girls came out a little bit flat in the title game and fell behind early.
While Del Norte lost on Tuesday, White said he could not be more pleased with what the girls accomplished to make it this far.
“We’re proud as can be,” he said. “I would take these girls to battle with me anytime.”
If the squad won on Tuesday they would have played one more game on Wednesday to determine who would earn the championship.
The team, consisting of girls 13 and 14 years old, started play at the
section event in Chico on Saturday in double elimination play.
Del Norte started out with a high scoring 18-12 victory over Colusa. The next game, Del Norte fell to Paradise.
On Monday Del Norte defeated Modoc 7-5 to make it to the title game and face Paradise again for the right to go on to state.
White said he was quite proud of the way his team had banded together
and adapted to the scorching Chico weather. In the team’s first game
against Colusa the temperature reached 109 degrees.
“The girls are doing extremely well in this heat,” he said.
To get to sections, last month Del Norte won the District 26 Junior All-Star Tournament in Crescent City.
The Del Norte squad soundly defeated the Redwood Empire of Eureka 11-0
in the championship game for the right to go on to sections.
