Yuroks set ballot for October vote |
Ten challengers will try to unseat Yurok Tribal Council Chairperson Maria Tripp and Vice-Chairperson Bonnie Bacon Green in the tribe’s October election. There will also be an election on the ballot between two people who are vying for the Orick District seat on the nine person council. Here are the candidates who have been certified by the Yurok Tribe’s Election Department to run in the upcoming races: • Chairperson: Maria Tripp (incumbent), David L. Gensaw, Sr., Ruby M. Grubbs, Frank L. McCovey, Thomas P. O’Rourke, Sr., and Michael Ward Vice-Chairperson: Bonnie Bacon Green (incumbent), Marjorie Donahue Buckskin, Robert Eugene Hunsucker, Sr., Allyson R. McCovey, Linda D. Roberts, and Kim Yost Orick District: Larry Z. Hendrix (incumbent), Allen D. McCloskey The election is scheduled for Oct. 14, and any Yurok Tribe members who will be 18 years old by that date must register to vote by Aug. 28.
