Obituary: Richard Gaylen Abbott (Jan. 24, 1940 - Aug. 9, 2009)
Richard Gaylen Abbott (Jan. 24, 1940 - Aug. 9, 2009)
Born January 24, 1940, in Arcata, to Arthur and Vicenza Abbott, who preceded him in death. Richard was a disabled veteran who served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Rich went to be with his parents on August 9, 2009, in the loving arms of his son, Russ, and his partner, Kandi. Rich is survived by his loving children, Russ Dunham; partner, Kandi Heather Amador; grandchild- ren Semaj Abbott of Crescent City, Keegan and Christopher of Haines, Alaska, and numerous other relatives. Rich left so many good friends behind it would be impossible to list them all. Just to name a few: Roscoe Cox; former wife Georgina Larsen; the late Bob Dodge; Jim and Vickie Dodge; Randy Rogers; Dean Larsen; and his extended family at the Elk Valley Casino Card Room. The rest of you know who you are. Anyone who knew Rich would hear him say, “There’s nothing better than listening to good music with good friends and a good smoke.” As per Rich’s, request no formal services will be held. A get- together with family and friends will be held at a date to be announced. As Rich was a staunch medical marijuana activist, please make any and all donations to the national organization for the reform of marijuana laws (NORML).
