Obituary-Joel H. Obuchon (Oct. 1, 1947 - Aug. 11, 2009)

Joel H. Obuchon (Oct. 1, 1947 - Aug. 11, 2009)

Joel H. Obuchon died August 11, 2009, at age 61. Born October 1, 1947, in La Crescenta, Calif., he joined the Navy in 1964 to see the world. He saw two tours of duty in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged in 1968 he moved to the Marin/Sonoma area. There he met his wife and became the proud father of their daughter. In 1985 the family moved to Weed, Calif.

Balancing work and family he also stepped into the public arena as a member of Rotary as well as being elected to the City Council, where his duties included one year as mayor of Weed. While in Siskiyou County, Joel began a career as a juvenile hall corrections officer; a job which he was able to transfer to Del Norte County in 2001. Through the Del Norte County Probation Department, he held the position of Senior Juvenile Hall Correctional Officer.

An 8-year resident of Del Norte County, he enjoyed living near the ocean, frequent vacations, the LA Dodgers and USC football. Joel will be remembered for his quick wit, sharp intellect and sense of humor.

He is survived by Pam, his wife of 30 years, and daughter Rosie.

At the request of the family, no memorial service will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
