Local P.E.O. scholar graduates from Southern Oregon University

Joanna Yax

Joanna Yax, former resident of Brookings, graduated from SOU on June 13, 2009. She is the recipient of two P.E.O. (Philanthropic and Educational Organization) scholarships. She graduated Summa Cum Laude, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in business with an accounting emphasis. She received the P.E.O. International Program for Continuing Education grant in 2007 and the P.E.O. Oregon Marguerite Scholarship in 2008.

After a number of years as a homemaker in Brookings, she returned to college at the Brookings Southwestern Oregon Community College campus. She is known for her award-winning quilting skills and has been a member of the Brookings Quilt Guild.

P.E.O.’s mission is to provide educational opportunities for women. Local P.E.O. Chapter GE serves both Curry and Del Norte counties and is currently providing scholarship assistance to three other local ladies.
