Driver safety program being offered
An AARP Driver Safety Program will be held Aug. 21 from noon to 4 p.m. and Aug. 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Crescent City Fire Hall, 520 I St. This eight-hour certificate course will be taught in a friendly, informal manner with interesting videos and helpful self-assessment quizzes with ample time for discussion. All participants who complete the course will receive a three-year certificate. Check with your auto insurance agent regarding savings. Classroom materials will be provided. Boys and Girls Clubs throughout California are looking for “Clunker Cars” to be donated as a way of raising funds. If you have a car to donate, call (800) 246-0493. 4-H seeking old ties and scarves The 4-H office is looking for 4-H ties or scarves from past members. If you have one you’d like to give, drop it by the office at 586 G St. or call 464-4711.
United Indian Health Services’ Community Health and Wellness Committee (C-HAWC) will sponsor its 18th annual HAWC walk/run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at UIHS Potawot Health Village in Arcata. Registration will be from 10 a.m.-noon. Health screening and health education vendor booths will offer blood sugar checks, blood pressure checks, tobacco abuse prevention, diabetes prevention, salves and ointments, nutrition education, taste-testing and more. Keynote speakers will be Barbara Edwards and Suzanne Simpson. A potluck lunch will follow. For information call Liz at 825-5070. |
