She was born Jan. 26, 1923, in Centralia, Wash., a daughter of Joseph Patrick and Cora Belle (Olmsted) Workman. As a child, she moved with her family to a logging camp near Crescent City, Calif., and attended elementary school in Crescent City. She subsequently moved to Centralia, where she graduated from high school. The family again moved, to San Francisco, where she met Joseph Meo, and married him on Aug. 7, 1943. The couple lived on the California Coast south of San Francisco until moving to Southern California in 1948. In 1949, they returned to the San Francisco Bay area where they lived until moving to Brookings. Mae worked as a postal clerk for 24 years in Pacifica, Calif. She retired in 1983. She was fun-loving and had a delightful sense of humor. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and was able to transition with her daughters from “mother” to “friend” as they matured. Mae was a member of Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile in Brookings. She enjoyed sewing and crafting, and spending time with friends. Survivors include her daughters, Judy Lee Meo of Half Moon Bay, Calif., Penny Rae Meo of Brookings; grandchildren Joseph Charles Korbus and Jennifer Elaine Mozetti; and four great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, on May 5, 2008; brothers Harold L., Cecil Patrick, Joseph Edward, and John Kenneth Workman; sisters Florence Elizabeth Banks and Thelma Mae Workman. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 3101 SW Sam Jackson Parkway, Portland, OR 97239.
