• Mark Douglas Yax, 45, died Aug. 24, 2009, at a local hospital. He was born May 23, 1964, in Fullerton.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in front of the administration building at Pelican Bay State Prison. Memorials in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1303 Northcrest Drive, Crescent City, CA 95531. Arrangements by Redwood Memorial Chapel.

• Lorene LaVelle Bach, 66, died Aug. 29, 2009, in Crescent City. She was born Jan. 14, 1943, in Little Rock, Ark., and was a 30-year resident of Del Norte County.

Funeral services will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Friday at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at the IOOF Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements by Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
