Warriors fall to Bruins

Del Norte falls in four games

The Del Norte High girls varsity volleyball team feel in its home opener on Wednesday to Brookings-Harbor in four games.

WHile disappointed with the loss, co-head coach Debbie Lorenzi said the girls need to learn from the loss and move on.

“It was good for us,” Lorenzi said. “ It opens pour eyes to what we need to work on.”

The squad which is seeking its 21st straight conference title this year dropped to 2-2 for the season.

It was the first time in several years they had lost to their over-the-border opponent.This years team is fairly young and features only four seniors and only two starter storm last year.

Things started out well for Del Norte who came out in the first game and missed to by fairly in sync for the most part with some inconsistencies thrown in for good measure After things became  knotted up at 21-21 the Warriors slammed out the remaining points for the 25-21  win.

In the second game, Del Norte could not get a consistent rhythm such and  not being able to be in the right position when the ball bounced the players way on defense.

The Bruins were victorious in dominating fashion with a 25-13 game two win.

Games three and four  were pretty m,much the same for the Warriors as they lost 25-20 and 25-19.

Lorenzi commended senior  Paula Rhodes for stepping up for the team and having a good all around performance.

Lorenzi said her team needs to become more consistent on defense and improve their hitting.

In the junior varsity consist the Warriors downed the Bruins 25-19, 25-15.

“It’s a good way to kick off the season,” head jv coach  Erin Louy. “

Before the game started there was a moment of silence for longtime junior varsity head coach Kathleen Anderson, who died of cancer last July.
