Del Norte girls soccer teams fall to Bruins |
The Del Norte High girls soccer team fell in varsity and JV action to Brookings-Harbor at home on Monday. In the varsity game the Warriors lost to the Bruins 3-0 to drop to 0-2 for the year. Normally, Del Norte does not have a JV team but put one together for this game to give the younger girls more experience. The JV team fell to Brookings 5-2. Girls soccer coach Clar Byers said that Tami Plechaty and Katy Suzuki were standouts on defense. “They were all over covering and controlling everything,” Byers said. In the JV game Del Norte was down only 1-0 at the end of the first half before the Bruins broke the game open with four goals in the second half. Byers commended Tanasha Santos for her strong play on defense. Carla Garcia and Lyndsay Veerkamp both scored goals for the Warriors. Del Norte next plays at home on Wednesday at 5 p.m. against St. Bernard’s. The boys team is also playing at home against St. Bernard’s at the same time. |
