DNHS downs North Coast Prep in tennis

The Del Norte High girls tennis team earned a 7-2 Humboldt-Del Norte Confe­rence win over North Coast Prep on Tuesday.

“The experience gained from our match on Saturday against Arcata was shown ... against North Coast Prep. ” Del Norte head coach Trudi Zottola Gugliemni said.

“I was proud of the team work, effort and strategies that they where able to accomplish in such a short time,” she added.

In No. 1 singles play Kathryn Gustafson of Del Norte downed Hannah Puttre 6-3, 6-2. 

In No. 2 singles Meghan Webb defeated Teal Stratton-Shea 6-4, 6-3.

In the No. 3 singles match Samantha Bausch was up 6-4  but had to retire due to injury and took the loss.

Hannah Seaton, the No. 4 seed for the Warriors, won in her match against Dot McMahon 6-4, 7-5. Severin Waltson of Del Norte defeated Xochitl Salazar 6-1, 7-5 in the No. 5 singles match while No. 6 seed Kaitlyn Stephens of Del Norte defeated Kaela Sutter 6-0, 6-0.

In No. 1 doubles Gustafson and Whitney Gamboa lost to Puttre and Stratton-Shea 8-5. 

Webb and Seaton of Del Norte won  in the No. 2 doubles match 8-1 and Walston and Stephens also won 8-1 in the No. 3 doubles match.

Del Norte improved to 1-1 for the year.
