Obituary: Marvin A. Bingham (Sept. 29, 1930-Aug. 17, 2009) |
Born on September 29, 1930 in Los Angeles, Calif., passed away peacefully in Beaverton, Ore. on August 17, 2009, after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia. Marvin spent most of this life in Smith River, Calif., where he met and married his sweetheart, Shiela, after serving in the Army during the Korean War. He was very active in the Smith River American Legion Post 712. A career in the timber industry was a perfect fit as Marvin enjoyed the outdoors; fishing, hunting and camping with his family and friends. He was very outgoing and social. He regularly took his wife dancing on Friday evenings and would rarely miss a community event or party. He was known to be a lighthearted jokester who loved telling stories. Marvin earned the title “Big Dad” not only for his stature, but for his gentle, loving, fatherly nature. He was preceded in death by his parents Archie and Lydia Bingham and his sister Helen Louise Wall. Marvin will be fondly remembered by Shiela Bingham, his loving and devoted wife of 56 years; his children Andrew, Calvin and Marla; his 8 grandchildren; and 1 great- grandchild. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on September 26, 2009, at the Smith River Cemetery, and afterward a “celebration of life” at the Ship Ashore Rec Hall. Potluck dishes are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to The Parkinson's Foundation: www. Parkinson.org.
