Obituary: Robert ‘Bob’ Hanlon (Apr. 10, 1938 - Sep 16, 2009) |
Robert W. ‘Bob’ Hanlon, 71, passed away Sept. 16, 2009, at a local care facility in Brookings, Ore. At his request, no public ceremony will be held. Cremation will be at Redwood Memorial Crematory. Bob was born April 10, 1938, in North Bend, Ore., to Robert and Patricia (Guilliams) Hanlon. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army and U.S. National Guard. He married Mary Jane Berry, Jan. 23, 1960, in Eureka, Calif. They made their home in Bodega Bay, Calif., where Bob began a lifelong career in commercial fishing. They moved to Eureka in 1972, back to Bodega Bay in 1976, and to Crescent City, in 1983. Bob retired from fishing in 1997. He later worked for Englund Marine in Coos Bay, Ore., before officially retiring in 2005. He enjoyed camping and hunting, and, after retirement, designing and building sport crab pots. Survivors include Mary, his wife of 49 years, of Harbor Ore.; son and daughter-in-law Randy and Kathy Hanlon of Crescent City; grandchildren Natalie, Skyler and Riley Hanlon; aunt Ruth Harrison of Harbor; aunt and uncle Iris and Harold Downie of Alamo, Calif.; cousin Beverly Harrison of Harbor. Bob was preceded in death by his son Robert Hanlon in 1996. Submitted by Redwood Memorial Chapel. 8-78305
