QB Pierce returns to lead Lions to victory |
Former Del Norte High football standout Buck Pierce made his return as the starting quarterback for the British Columbia Lions on the Canadian Football League on Saturday.
He had missed more than a month with a concussion, his fifth in an 11 month period. Pierce went 20-of-28 for 171 yards and no interceptions in the Lions’ 23-17 home win over Toronto. “Everybody was thinking I was going to get hit out there and crumble,” said Pierce in a story on the Lions’ website. “That’s not me ... I played smart. It was good to go out there and prove it to yourself, just to play and have fun.” Pierce replaced QB Jarious Jackson, who is out with a shoulder injury, The game marked a milestone, as Lions head coach Wally Buono became the winningest coach in CFL history. “That's a milestone he will have for the rest of his life,” said Pierce in the article. “To be part of that is something big.”
