Local barrel racer Haddad places 5th |
Natasha Haddad, 13, of Crescent City, who is competing in barrel racing on the California Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association circuit, had a 5th place finish out of 20 contestants in Bonnyville in Mendocino County on Sunday.
Haddad and her horse Lexie finished with a time of 18.6 seconds. The top finisher had a time of 18.2 seconds. Jeanna Haddad, Natasha's mom, said the event was held on a football field and not in the most ideal conditions. Because of this, Natasha went a little bit slower and was more cautious to reduce the chance of injury to her horse, her mom said. Natasha finished nearly two seconds ahead of the leader for rookie of the year honors in the CCPRA, who she trailed by $315. But since Natasha did not place in the top four in this race she did not receive a cash prize in the last regular season race of the year and came up short in her rookie of the year quest. Next for Natasha is the state barrel racing finals, which she has already qualified for. They are set to take place on Oct. 2 and 3 in Redding.
