DNHS girls tennis team falls to Fortuna

The Del Norte girls tennis team lost 5-4 to Fortuna on the road on Saturday.

Warrior No. 1 seed Kathryn Gustafson remained undefeated for the year, downing Taylor Ross 6-1, 6-2.

No. 2 seed Meghan Webb lost to Callie Bonnikson 3-6, 4-6. Samantha Bausch, the No. 3 seed for Del Norte, lost  1-6,  0-6 to Shelby Shapiro.

No. 4 seed Hannah Seaton lost in a three set battle 7-5, 3-6, 2-6 to Rebecca Long. No. 5 seed Whitney Gamboa lost 2-6, 6-7 to Katie Dominguez. No. 6 seed Kaitlyn Stephens won  6-0, 6-2 in her match against Bri Beaton.

In doubles matches Gustafson and Bausch won 6-2, 6-4 against Ross and Bonnikson. In No. 2 doubles Webb and Seaton fell  3-6, 4-6 to Shapiro and Long. In the No. 3 doubles match Gamboa and Stephens won 6-1, 6-2.

Del Norte dropped to 1-2 for the year and will next play St. Bernard’s of Eureka on Saturday.
