Medical student honored at ceremony |
Jason Standring, son of Dr. James and Lori Standring of Crescent City, and a 2003 graduate of Del Norte High School, was honored at an August White Coat Ceremony for the new “Student Doctors” of the Class of 2013 at Touro University Medical School.
Each student is presented with a “white coat,” which is symbolic of how Hippocrates had advised doctors how they should dress. It signifies the beginning of their lives caring for patients.
Touro University’s medical school is relatively new, having graduated its first class of doctors in 2001. It was started in San Francisco in 1997, then moved north of the Bay to Mare Island in 1999 where the U.S. Navy had closed its naval shipyard (and submarine-building facilities) in 1996. Jason Standring and his wife, Kendra, now reside in Benicia, a few miles away from the school. |
