Warriors VB squad goes 2-2 at tourney |
The Del Norte High varsity volleyball team went 2-2 at the Carmichael Tournament in the Sacramento area on Saturday.
The Warriors won their first two games and fell in their final two contests. Co-coach Pablo Lorenzi said the team had a good tournament performance, even in the losses, which were against elite teams, he said. “It was a better team effort,” he said, especially in the way players communicated with teammates. “Some of the basic things are starting to become second nature.”
In the first contest Del Norte downed Gridley in two games.
In the second contest against Fort Bragg Lorenzi said the Warriors dominated things as they ran away with a two game victory. In the third game Del Norte faced Granite Bay, which featured two girls who are already set to play college volleyball. While Del Norte lost, Lorenzi said he was pleased with his team’s effort. “We competed really well against them,” he said. “That was a good sign.” In the Warriors’ final contest they lost to Mercy High in two games. Lorenzi said while they lost his team continued to show marked improvement against a quality team. Del Norte is now 9-9 for the season. The Warriors do not play again until Oct. 6 when they face Eureka on the road in Del Norte’s Big 5 home opener. The Warriors have not lost a conference game since 2005 and are seeking their 21st straight conference crown. While Lorenzi said it would have been nice to have a game this week to prepare for the conference opener, he said the team would continue to practice this week and work hard to get ready for the Loggers.
