DN boys earn 5-0 win over Panthers |
Warrior girls team unable to play due to McKinleyville showing up late
The Warriors shut out the McKinleyville Panthers 0-5 at home. “It was probably the best game we played this year,” Del Norte co-coach A.J. Myer-Zlokovich said, adding the squad was excellent with its passing and talking to one another. “Pretty much everything came together.”
The Warriors had a 1-0 lead after the first half.
In the second half the Warriors really got going and scored four more goals. For the game the Warriors had 28 shots on goal.
Ian Jager and Edwin Aguilar were top-notch on offense with two goals each. Cheng Vang scored the other goal for the Warriors. The Del Norte defense was quite tough, with only seven shots on goal for the game and only one shot attempted in the second half. Myer-Zlokovich commended the defense for “holding the line and working together ... Our goalie was pretty bored.” Del Norte improved to 5-3 for the year. The Del Norte girls team was unable to play on Saturday. Warrior head coach Clar Byers said the Panthers thought the game was at 1 p.m. and did not start showing up until past noon. The contest was supposed to begin at 11 a.m. Due to prior commitments the referees could not stay. Technically, the game is forfeited and Del Norte gets the win. But, Byers said, both him and the Panthers coach want to play the game and are working to try to find a time to play this season. On Wednesday both the girls and boys teams are at Eureka. |
