Local woman related to Muir

Although my husband and I have lived in Crescent City for almost 40 years, I do not think that anyone is aware that I am related to naturalist John Muir of Yosemite fame!
You see, my Aunt Mary Muir of Phelps, Wisc., married Hugh Muir, a first cousin of John Muir. To this union were three children, Irene, Mervyn and Myrtle Muir, all of whom are now deceased of course. I have a cousin in Land O’Lakes, Wisc., who is famous in his own right, a direct descendent of John Muir, in fact his name is John Muir. In 1973 he was “Trap-shooting Champion of the United States!” I am proud to be related to John Muir, even though inately. He did much for the popularity of Yosemite. Perhaps of all the states, California is most aware of John Muir and his contributions to his country that he loved. |
