Warrior boys fall to Eureka 4-1 in soccer |
Girls squad loses to the Loggers 8-0
Del Norte High was unable to sustain its first half momentum, falling to Eureka 4-1 in boys Big 4 Conference soccer action Wednesday night. After losing to the Loggers 3-0 in the season opener the Warriors came out ready to play in the first half. After allowing a goal around the four minute mark, Del Norte came back with a goal made by senior Cheng Vang around the 15 minute mark. The score remained 1-1 the end of the half.
“We played awesome the first half,” co-coach A.J. Meyer Zlokovich
said, adding that the team seemed to be running on all cylinders and
appeared ready to upset the Loggers.
But in the second half things fell apart as Eureka scored three more goals to earn the win. Meyer-Zlokovich said the Warriors just seemed to lack focus and came out flat. When asked what the team could learn from the loss, Meyer-Zlokovich replied “to play two halves.” He commended David Martinez for his excellent play on defense and said goalie Scottie Skeen played well. “He saved a lot of goals,” Meyer-Zlokovich said. Del Norte fell to 5-4 for the year. In the girls varsity game the Warriors lost to the Loggers 8-0. Head coach Clar Byers said his young squad gave a good effort and held Eureka scoreless for the first 15 minutes of the game but had trouble afterwards containing them. He commended sophomore goalie Molly Lambert who had 17 goal saves for the game. Del Norte fell to 0-8 for the season. |
