DNHS girls tennis team defeats North Coast Prep
The Del Norte High girls tennis team earned a 6-3 Humboldt-Del Norte Conference win over North Coast Prep at home on Thursday. In the No. 1 singles match Kathryn Gustafson of Del Norte downed Hannah Puttre 6-2, 6-2. No. 2 seed Meghan Webb fell to Teal Stratton-Shea 3-6, 4-6, while No. 3 seed Samantha Bausch lost 2-6, 2-6 to Alina Samuels. The No. 4 seed for the Warriors, Kaitlyn Stephens, lost in three sets to Dot McMahon 3-6, 6-3, 3-6. Whitney Gamboa, the No. 5 seed for Del Norte, downed Kaela Sutter 6-3, 6-3, while No. 6 seed Severin Waltson won her match versus Xochitl Salazar 6-0, 6-4. The Warriors also won all three of their doubles matches.
The Del Norte High boys junior varsity soccer team remained undefeated for the year, downing the McKinleyville Panthers 3-2 at home on Thursday. The win improved the Warriors to 5-0-2 for the year. The score was tied at 1-1 after the first half with Del Norte getting in two more goals in the second half to earn the victory. Jose Ramirez, Luis Raya and Juan Chavez each scored for Del Norte
The Del Norte High girls golf team took part in a Humboldt-Del Norte Conference event at Baywood Golf and Country Club in Arcata on Thursday. Kayla Bohannon led the way for the Warriors with a 123 while Nikki Fugate shot a 129. Sydney Benson finished with a score of 133 and Madison Vanvalkenburgh shot a 136. Shelby Slayton and Kelsi Bomke each shot a 137.
The Del Norte County recreation Department is offering a dodgeball and adult indoor soccer leagues. The dodgeball league begins on Nov. 3 with games held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The team fee is $160 with registration due by Oct. 30. The soccer season begins on Nov. 12 with registration ending on Nov. 6. The team fee is $200 with games scheduled for Thursdays and Sundays.
