Dance at fairgrounds tonight

Rocky and the Revelettes will play ’50s and ’60s music for the annual Sea Cruise dance from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. tonight in the Del Norte County Fairgrounds main exhibit hall.

Tickets are $20 each at Crescent Land Title and at the door. For more information, call the Chamber of Commerce at 464-3174.


DNACA season tickets on sale

Season tickets for the Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness 27th season are on sale at Del Norte Office Supply, in Brookings at Mory’s and via mail at P.O. Box 1480, Crescent City, CA 95531.

They will also be available at the door of DNACA’s first two performances, the Hot Club of San Francisco on Saturday, Oct. 24, and The Waybacks on Tuesday, Nov. 3, in Crescent Elk Auditorium. Other performances include a Sunday matinee with California Guitar Trio on Jan. 24, 2010, and 7:30 p.m. performances by Gamelan Sekar Jaya next April 17 and Keith Bear with Jovino Santos Neto next May 7.

Season tickets provide significant discounts, guarantee admission and are transferable, and cost $65 for general admission, $45 for students and seniors, and $150 for a family. For more information, or to receive a brochure, call 464-1336.     


LRT’s ‘The Fantasticks’ continues

Lighthouse Repertory Theatre’s production of the world’s longest-running musical, “The Fantasticks,” continues this and next weekend in Crescent Elk Auditorium.

New show up at courthouse

The new Art in Public Places exhibit up in the courthouse is “The Art of Brush & Pen,” a one-man show by Crescent City artist Lloyd Kirkpatrick which will hang through Nov. 13.  The show includes a sampling of Kirkpatrick's work, including intricate calligraphy and masterly oil paintings. 

The Del Norte County Courthouse is located at 450 H St., and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, excluding national holidays. For more information, call DNACA at 464-1336.


‘Don’t Dress for Dinner’ in Brookings

Brookings Harbor Community Theater’s Production of “Don’t Dress For Dinner,” an adult comedy, opened Friday in the Harbor Performing Arts Center in Brookings.

Written by Marc Camoletti and directed by Colleen Harrison, it will run for three weekends, ending Oct. 25. Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and are available at Mory's, Words and Pictures and Chetco Pharmacy and Gifts. For reservations or more information, call Dori Blodgett at (541) 661-2473.


Christmas melodrama auditions

The Brookings Harbor Community Theater will hold auditions for its production of “A Plight Before Christmas” at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in the Harbor Performing Arts Center located in the Brookings Harbor Shopping Center.

This musical Christmas melodrama is based on characters from Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” and will run for the first two weekends in December.  Director Leanne McCurley is looking for four men and three women; along with the cast of seven, singers are wanted to sing a variety of Christmas carols. For further information, call McCurley at (541) 469-4696 or the theater at (541) 469-4700 or 661-2473.


Albee’s ‘The Zoo Story’ concludes

A production of “The Zoo Story” by Edward Albee concludes next weekend at Muse Theatrix, 1240 Chetco Avenue in Brookings.

It is directed by Kirsten Randrup and features Crescent City actors Howard Patterson and Ron Cole.  Shows will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday (Oct. 15-17), with a 2 p.m. matinee Oct. 18. Tickets are $10. For reservations or more information, call (541) 251-4027.
