Tickets on sale for Emblem’s Festival of the Trees
Crescent City Emblem Club #175 will stage its 15th annual Festival of the Trees fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 5, at the VFW Hall, 810 H St. A luncheon at noon will feature a fashion show and entertainment. Cost to attend is $10. Tickets for the lunch and opportunity tickets for drawings of decorated trees and various prizes can be purchased at McPherren’s Tax Service, 400 L St., and at Del Norte Office Supply, 240 I St. Tree viewing times will be Friday, Dec. 4, from 2-7 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9:30 a.m.-noon. Individuals or businesses wishing to decorate trees for the event should call 464-5789 or 954-1915.
California State Parks and the North Coast Redwood Interpretive Association will hold its annual Bat Walk on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Participants in this non-costumed event should meet at the park’s visitor center located in the campground. Mask-making and interpretive games for children will begin at 5 p.m., with a ranger-led walk to view resident bats starting at dusk (about 6 p.m.). A campfire with storyteller Dan O’Gara will start at 7 p.m. followed by a Dutch auction and refreshments. The event is free. For information call 465-2144.
A new indoor winter farmers market will be opening in the Brookings-Harbor area on Nov. 6. Sponsored by the Chetco Grange #765, the market will be located inside the Chetco Grange Community Center at the corner of Hwy. 101 and Zimmerman Way in Harbor.
