LRT’s ‘The Fantasticks’ continues Lighthouse Repertory Theatre's production of the world’s longest-running musical, “The Fantasticks,” continues this weekend and next in Crescent Elk Auditorium. Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $12 for adults, $8 for children 17 and under and seniors 55 years and over, and are available at Del Norte Office Supply and at the door. A recycled art project in the public schools has started up for the 2009-2010 year, spearheaded by Recology Del Norte (formerly Del Norte Disposal) and Julindra Recycling. The project will have two booths at the “It’s a Green Day“ show Oct. 24 at the Del Norte County Fairgrounds. Some of the students’ art projects will be on display at one table, and the other will be an “arts table” for creating recycled paper art projects on site. DNACA’s 2009-10 season to open Season tickets for the Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness are on sale at Del Norte Office Supply, in Brookings at Mory's, via the mail at P.O. Box 1480 in Crescent City, and will also will also be available at the door of DNACA’s first performance — the Hot Club of San Francisco, a quintet playing Gypsy jazz -- at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 in Crescent Elk Auditorium. Other performances include The Waybacks on Tuesday, Nov. 3, a Sunday matinee with the California Guitar Trio on Jan. 24, 2010, and 7:30 p.m. performances by Gamelan Sekar Jaya on April 17 and Keith Bear with Jovino Santos Neto on May 7. Season tickets provide significant discounts, guarantee admission and are transferable, and cost $65 for general admission, $45 for students and seniors, and $150 for a family. The Art in Public Places exhibit up in the courthouse is “The Art of Pen & Brush,” a one-man show by Crescent City artist Lloyd Kirkpatrick which will hang through Nov. 13. The show includes a nice sampling of Kirkpatrick's work, including intricate calligraphy and masterly oil paintings. The Del Norte County Courthouse is located at 450 H St., and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. For more information, call DNACA at 464-1336.
The Coast Redwoods Art Association’s 2009 Photography Show is hanging through Oct. 30 at Crescent Harbor Gallery. Ribbon winners, as determined by the public present at the reception, are Jon Parmentier for “The Weary Shall Now Rest” (first place), and George Cady for “Trout Pond” (second place) and “Chimayo Crosses” (third place). Brookings Harbor Community Theater’s Production of “Don’t Dress For Dinner,” an adult comedy, is running this and next weekend in the Harbor Performing Arts Center in Brookings. Written by Marc Camoletti, the play is directed by Colleen Harrison.
