Obituary: Ellen Adell Leinonen (July 2, 1913 - Oct. 12, 2009) |
The loved mother that touched the lives of five generations of family and friends, with truth, honesty and wisdom, Ellen Adell Leinonen, age 96, passed away on October 12, 2009, at her daughter and son in law’s home.
Ellen was born July 2, 1913, to Verna & William Pray in St. Joe, Idaho. She was the last of six siblings. Living on a 144 acre homestead with her family, helping with many farm chores, walking to school on railroad tracks, she got an 8th grade education that served her well. Ellen and Bill Henderson had two children and after their divorce, Ellen married Pete Leinonen May 10, 1941, in Thompson Falls, Montana leaving Idaho and moving to Oregon, they had 56 years together until his death on September 20, 1997. Ellen was a homemaker, loved cooking, gardening and music. She made wonderful pickles, etc. Ellen was always ready to help family and friends. She was an 11 year resident of of Crescent City. She leaves behind a son, Howard Henderson, of San Diego; daughter, Joyce Lockhart and husband, Joe of Crescent City; grand-daughter, Leslie Lockhart of Crescent City; grandsons, Brian Scott and wife, Jessie of Crescent City; Brad Scott, of Oregon; Jason Henderson and wife, Adell of McKinleyville; Kirk Henderson and wife, Julie of Redding; step-grandsons, Vern Lockhart and Joey Lockhart, both of Tennessee and Bill Lockhart of Idaho; 10 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contribu-tions to one’s favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
