Del Norte girls tennis team downs St. Bernard’s

The Del Norte High girls tennis team defeated St. Bernard’s of Eureka 6-3 on Tuesday.

The win improves the Warriors to 4-5 in Humboldt-Del Norte Conference play.

No. 1 seed Kathryn Gustafson downed Alyssa Johnson 6-1, 6-1 to improve to 8-1 for the year.                                                                                  

Meghan Webb, the No. 2 seed for Del Norte, fell to Maricela Resendz 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.No. 3 seed Samantha Bausch lost to Julia Zhu 6-3, 6-2.                                                                      

Kaitlyn Stephens, the No. 4 seed for the Warriors, won against Alia San Giovanni 6-1, 6-1.

No. 5 seed Whitney Gamboa defeated Lizzy McIntosh 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, while No. 6 seed Severin Walston lost to Eunice Li 7-5, 7-5.

In doubles play Gustafson  and Bausch won 8-1 in No. 1 doubles. Webb and Stephens won 8-5 and Hannah Seaton and Gamboa won their match 6-3.


DNHS cross country competes at South Fork

The Del Norte High cross country team took part in a Humboldt-Del Norte Conference meet at South Fork on Tuesday.

Zara Gastieneau took 7th place for the girls while Shannon Benn was 25th and Taylor Jacob was 31st.

For the boys Gabe Bradley came in 29th while Patrick White was 30th.

Dalton Bradbury finished 47th, Jay Bhatt 50th and Andrew Napier 54th.


DNYF to have spaghetti feed fundraiser Friday

The Del Norte Youth Football League is hosting a spaghetti feed fundraiser on Friday, October 23.

The event is from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Elk Valley Community Center, located at 2298 Norris Ave., in Crescent City. Northwoods is providing the food for the feed which includes spaghetti, garlic bread and salad. 

The cost is $5 per person and $20 for a family of five people.


Local swim club to host open house on Nov. 2

The Crescent City Swim Club will be hosting an open house on Nov. 2.

The event will take place starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Fred Endert Municipal Pool located at 1000 Play Drive.

The club is open to all ages up to 18 years old.

Those interested are required to be able to swim at least one length of the pool, and to bring a parent and a swimming suit.

Sign-ups happening for dodgeball and soccer

The Del Norte County Recreation Department is offering dodgeball and adult indoor soccer leagues.

The dodgeball league begins on Nov. 3, with games held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The team fee is $160 with registration due by Oct. 30.

The soccer season begins on Nov. 12 with registration ending on Nov. 6. The team fee is $200 with games scheduled for Thursdays and Sundays.
