What is the potential cure for a four-game losing streak?

Play a team that has struggled even worse than you have.

Tonight, the Del Norte High varsity football team hopes it can earn a much-needed victory in Big 4 Conference action against the winless Arcata Tigers on the road.

Del Norte (1-4 overall and 0-2 in the Big 4) has not won since a 6-0 season-opening win against Hidden Valley of Oregon on Sept. 11.

Since that time the Warriors have been outscored 211-28, including a 47-8 homecoming loss to Fortuna last Friday.

“We’ve been through a buzzsaw” the past four games, Warrior head coach Bob Hadfield said. “It would be nice to earn a win.”

Hadfield said that the 0-6 Tigers have struggled to field a complete team all year and have been having a fair share of problems on the gridiron this year.

Arcata opened with a  43-20 loss to Trinity High of Weaverville, the closest Arcata has been in a ball game all year.

On Saturday, Arcata was destroyed by Eureka, 72-0.

Hadfield said that while on paper it may appear to be an easy win, his team can’t look past the Tigers.

After all, with how the Warriors have fared as of late “they (Arcata) may think they have a chance to win a game, too,” he said.

Hadfield said that his team must get out of its offensive blahs.

“We need to get into the end zone more than once,” he said. So far this year the Warriors have scored only a single touchdown in all their games.

The junior varsity game begins at 5 p.m., with the varsity game at 7:30 p.m. in Arcata at Humboldt State University.
