Obituaries: Myron William Mitchell (Feb. 25, 1924 - Oct. 19, 2009) |
Myron William Mitchell Feb. 25, 1924 - Oct. 19, 2009 Myron is pre-deceased by his wife and the love of his life, Joy Elizabeth; his son, John, of Redding and two brothers, Arthur and John. Myron was the second of nine children born to Clinton and Margaret Mitchell. The first-born, Alice, died in a drowning accident at age 4, and another sister, Marilyn, died of “tumors” at the age of 2. His siblings, William (Bud), Evelyn, Mildred, Jane, and Richard are living in Maine. He also has many nieces and nephews of whom he was very proud and enjoyed visiting. Myron and Joy married in 1951 in Van Nuys, Calif. He was the father of Loren David, John Marvin, Clifton Augustus, and Joy Ann. He is survived by his sons, Loren and Clifton; his daughter, Joy Ann; his daughters in law, Kathy, Susan, and Nancy; his son-in-law, Edward Dorsey and grandchildren, Jim, David, Tony, Patricia, Edward, Whitney and Jaemi. He also leaves 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. The life of Myron was one filled with hard work and devotion to family and friends. He earned his high school diploma, and licenses as a master electrician and a master plumber as an adult because, as a teenager, he was called upon to help out during rough times on the family farm during WWII. He dropped out of high school and worked at The Bath Iron Works as a machinist. In 1947, when family members needed to get to California, as typical for Myron, he consented to drive them out here. Once in California, he began work as an apprentice carpenter and took classes in order to complete his education. He met Joy at the Methodist Church in Van Nuys, where they remained active members for over 50 years! He lived in North Hills, Calif., from 1963-2007. Myron worked for the Hydra-Electric Company in Burbank for 43 years, serving in many capacities, including overseeing construction of a major housing complex in Mammoth Lakes, Calif., for the owner of the company. When the owner needed his new home wired, he asked Myron to do that, too! Myron represents the best of the men of his era. He worked hard, provided for his family, and may not have said the words, but showed his love in everything he did and he did it without ever uttering a single complaint. He shared his passion for fishing and his desire to see all of the beautiful places in our country by taking his family on annual vacations which always included those things! In 2007, Myron moved to Addie Meedom Home in Crescent City to be near his fishing guide grandson, Jim. Along with Jim’s wife, Chris, and their family, “Grandpa Myron” was included in loving Sunday dinners, church, drives to the beach, the redwoods, elk viewing, haircuts-manicures and pedicures by Jim, long talks with Chris and best of all...FISHING! He made many friends in his couple of years in Crescent City who, along with all of his many friends, neighbors and family, will miss this fine gentleman.
