Obituary: Donald Nicholas Senf (Apr. 21, 1929 - Oct. 17, 2009)

Don was born April 21, 1929, in Oakes, N.D., to Walter and Sophia Senf. Don married Marti Theobald on April 21, 1952, in Crescent City. The family lived in Crescent City and Eureka prior to moving to Yreka in 1969. Don was an entrepreneur at heart. He was an accountant and owned and operated a hotel in Yreka.

Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marti; his children, Ed Senf of Petaluma, Andy Senf of Rochester, Minn., Terry Senf of Yreka, Mary Jo Culp and her husband Russ of Yreka, Dorothy Peters and her husband David of Reno, Tim Senf and his wife Carol of Fremont, Roger Senf and his companion Jan Jacobs of Sacramento, John Senf and his wife Rose of Yreka, Janet Jayasekera and her husband Kolitha of Canada, Pete Senf and his companion Page Brooks of Yreka, Bill Senf of Yreka and Adam Senf and his wife Cydnie of Vacaville; his sister Dorothy Davis and her husband Richard of Rapid City, S.D.; 23 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his brother Edward Senf, his sister Helen Haecherl and two grandchildren, Josh Painter and Brent Senf.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at the Yreka United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Madrone Hospice, 255 Collier Cir., Yreka, CA 96097. Marti Senf, 505 Fairchild, Yreka 96097.
