Avis Ida Brumm, long time resident of Crescent City, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2009, at the age of 98 in her home with her grandson Patrick by her bedside. She was born on September 21, 1911, in Elgin, Minn. Avis graduated from St. Mary’s in Rochester, Minn. She and her husband Marcellus and son Charles first came to Del Norte County in the mid-1940s, where they started a lily farm. Avis was a nurse at Seaside Hospital for over 25 years, where she was in charge of the maternity floor, having assisted and delivered many babies. Avis was a member of St. Joseph Parish. She loved to play the piano and entertained at many parties in Crescent City and in Curpertino. Avis was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother. She was cherished by her family and so many people.
Avis is survived by her daughter in law Clare, grandchildren Elizabeth (Steve) Courtol, Paul (Terri), Phil (Nicole), Andrew, Patrick, Anne Marie Brumm, Sarah (Paul) Raffoli, Katie (Moe) Islam. Also 13 great grandchildren. She was preced in death by her husband Marcellus and son Charles. Visitation will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Friday , November 6th from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM and a Rosary service will be held at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday, November 7th at 11:00 AM with interment to follow at St Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Crescent City. The family requests in lieu of flowers contributions be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2065 West El Camino Real, Suite C, Mountain View, CA 94040, or to one’s favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
