DNYF A White Squad earns exciting playoff win

It was a memorable weekend of playoff action for the Del Norte Youth Football League.
In a Six Rivers Youth Football first round playoff game on Sunday, the DNYF A White team squeaked out a 19-18 double overtime win against McKinleyville in South Fork.

Near the end of regulation, with Del Norte down 12-6, on a 4th and 22 situation McKinleyville was called for pass interference and Del Norte was given new life.

The Warriors scored on a  touchdown run by William Gensaw to knot things up at 12. The extra point conversion was no good and the game went into overtime.

In the second overtime period Gensaw scored again and Cole Harper had a single point conversion run to give Del Norte a 19-18 lead.

Later, the Panthers scored.

On the single point running attempt the Panthers were stopped by a game ending tackle by Bradley Gavin, with help from Jackson Bruder to seal the win.

With the victory the White team joins three other DNYF squads in the next round of the playoffs. The other teams earned first round byes.

The AAA squad faces ERV at home at Mike Whalen Field on the Del Norte High campus on  Sunday at 3 p.m.

The AA Blue team will face  HYF at 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 at home.

The AA Gold team plays  RYF on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Ferndale High School.

The A White squad faces RYF at Del Norte High o Sunday starting at 10 a.m.

The winner of each game will earn a berth in its respective championship game, which takes place on Nov. 22 at Humboldt State University in Arcata.

On Saturday, the DNYF cheer squads competed in the area cheer competition in Eureka.

 The A Gold team took second in dance and third in cheer The A Blue squad took the superior award in song and in cheer. The AA  team took third in dance and third in cheer.  The AAA squad  earned second in dance and second in cheer.
