DNHS tennis team takes part in the championships

The Del Norte High girls tennis team took part in the Humboldt-Del Norte Conference doubles championships on Friday and Saturday in Fortuna.

 In No. 1 doubles Megan Webb and Samantha Bausch faced Northcoast Prep and lost 6-3, 6-4.

Kaitlyn Stephens and Severin  Walston, the No. 2 doubles team for Del Norte fell to Fortuna 6-3, 6-2.

In  No. 3 doubles Whitney Gamboa and Hannah Seaton made it to the finals. They faced Fortuna in the first round and won 6-1, 6-2.

In the second round they were supposed to play St. Bernard’s, which had to default.

In the finals Del Norte lost to Eureka 6-4, 6-3.

Due to rain during the singles championships the week before, Seaton, the No. 6 seed, was unable to finish her first round match,

On Friday she completed the match and defeated Bri Beaton of Fortuna 6-1, 6-3. She then played St. Bernard’s Caroline Cho, who defeated Seaton 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

At the HDNC singles championships Del Norte sophomore Kathryn Gustafson won the No. 1 singles title.  By winning the conference singles title  she earned the right to take part in the Northcoast Section singles championships, which take place in Santa Rosa on Monday.
