Tribal dinner planned, volunteers sought |
The Northern California Indian Development Council’s 28th annual Elders Dinner and Inter-Tribal Gathering will be Nov. 14, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m., at Redwood Acres Fairgrounds in Eureka. A salmon and turkey dinner will be served from noon-4 p.m., with a traditional gift giving ceremony to all Honored Elders in attendance. The event will feature demonstrations of traditional tribal dances from the Hupa, Karuk, Tolowa and Yurok tribes. Special performances by the Aztec dancers and a traditional hoop dancer will round out the event. Entrance to the gathering is free; the dinner is free to all Elders (age 55 and up), with a suggested $6 donation for all others. Numerous volunteers are needed in the following categories: Nov. 13, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., for pantry stocking, program assembly, cleaning, set-up, food prep; Nov. 14, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., for organization of recycling team, gate and ribbon attendants, kitchen help, food servers, janitorial services, and runners for food delivery; Nov. 15, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., general cleanup, table and chair tear down and loading into truck, trash removal and other janitorial duties as needed.
