Preparatory Orchestra seeks string players

The Curry-Del Norte Preparatory Orchestra is a string orchestra which gives young and aspiring adult string players the opportunity to practice ensemble playing, both for enjoyment and toward the goal of moving up to the adult full orchestra.

The ability to read music is a prerequisite; rehearsals are held on Wednesdays. For students who play violin, viola, cello, or bass, are new to the area and have not not yet been contacted, call Ann Donati at 464-3368 for information and to enroll.

Both orchestras are under the sponsorship of the Curry-Del Norte Orchestra Guild.

Local art at Talking Crow Studio

Talking Crow Studio at 170 Marine Way currently has on display a plethora of works by local artisans, offering a wide variety of opportunities for one-of-a-kind gifts.

Pieces include graphite drawings by Randy McMillen, wood carvings by Shane Auer, pine needle baskets and washi paper eggs by Barbara Lee, color photographs by Mark Renner and Jon Parmentier, lithographs by Erica Moore, turned wooden bowls by Michael Tompkins, recycled glass jewelry by Sandy Prince, unique wooden furniture by Craig Barnes and a variety of pottery by Willie Blakley, Hannah Seaton and Rika Blue (who also creates art prints).

Studio hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, noon to 6 p.m. on Fridays, and 10 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information, call 464-7690.
