Obituary: Robert Earl Wafler (Sept. 29, 1922-Nov. 11, 2009)

Robert Earl Wafler passed away in Medford on November 11, 2009. He was born in Granite City, Ill. on September 29, 1922. Bob was a 31-year resident of Del Norte County having moved here from Granada Hills, Calif. Prior to retirement, Bob was employed by the United States Postal Service for 25 years. He was a member of the VFW Post #1381 where he was past commander and held many positions both locally and at the state level in the veteran’s organization. Bob was past member of the Crescent City Eagles and Elks BPOE #1689, Gold Hill Grange, Jackson County Grange, Oregon State Grange and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie Wafler of Gold Hill, Ore., and Crescent City; children, Janet Marie Kennedy of Danville, Calif., Robert Hugh Wafler of Fernley, Nev., Richard Lee Wafler of Crescent City, Danny Ray Wafler of Dublin, Calif.; step-children,  Ed Wormington of Placerville, Calif. and Karen Mann of San Antonio, Tex.; 12 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda Lee Riddle Wafler; brothers and sisters, Lorraine Betrix, Charles Hugh Wafler, Medora Alice Wafler, Ellis Monroe Wafler, and Raymond Frederick Wafler.

Visitation will be at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Sunday, November 15, from 2 - 5 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Monday, November 16, at 11:00 a.m. with interment at Del Norte County Veteran’s Cemetery, Crescent City.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contribu-tions be made to the VFW Post #1381, 810 H Street, Crescent City, CA. 95531 or Gold Hill Grange, PO Box 34, Gold Hill, OR. 97525.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
