July 23, 1926 - Nov. 6, 2009

Sue (Matthews) Nichols, born in Oklahoma on July 23, 1926, passed away on November 6, 2009, at age 83. She was the daughter of Levi and Wanda Matthews and had 4 brothers and 2 sisters, all deceased. She is survived by her daughter, Rochelle Odom of Smith River.

She moved to California when she was 4 and grew up in Pomona, where she worked for a CPA and spent her life as an accountant. She later moved to the Santa Barbara area and was Vice President and Comptroller of San Ysidro Ranch in Monticito for a number of years and was very active in the business and professional Women’s Club.

She moved to Del Norte County about 12 years ago and made many friends. She enjoyed working for Century 21 as a Realtor. Sue attended the Smith River Baptist Church where her memorial service was held on Sunday, November 8.

She was a wonderful mother and true friend. Her last few days were at Sutter Coast Hospital and she received loving care there.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
