McCovey takes 2nd at Michigan State Open |
Former Del Norte High two-time state heavyweight champion wrestler Roger McCovey continues to do well at North Idaho College during a very busy three days of wrestling.
McCovey, a true freshman, placed second at the Michigan State Open in East Lansing on Sunday. The Cardinals were the only junior college at the event. McCovey lost in the finals 4-3 to Curtis Blaydes of Northern Illinois. He was one of only two Cardinals to place at the open. On Saturday McCovey earned the heavyweight title at the Muskegon Open. He downed Corey Anderson of Lincoln College 4-2, to place 5-0 at the tourney. The day before, in duals action at Muskegon McCovey fell to Anderson 4-2. In a Friday dual match against Niagara McCovey defeated Kyle Gibas 8-3. |
