Obituary: Joan Yvette Oquist (Aug. 8 1937 - Nov. 11, 2009) |
Joan Yvette Oquist was born in Fairfield, Alabama, on August 8, 1937. She passed away at Sutter Coast Hospital on November 11, 2009. Joan was a Del Norte resident for 15 years. She graduated from high school at the age of 16 in Houston, Texas. Joan also attended Butte College and got her degree in nursing as an LVN.
She assisted her husband in his auto shop and loved to go places and wanted to see the world. She loved the great outdoors and really loved the big redwoods. She just loved life. Joan was a member of the LDS Church and in her later years, when she was unable to go to church, she would sit around and read her book of Mormon. Joan would ask every now and then, "have you read your book of Mormon today?" She would keep you on your toes and would turn around and be a funny lady. She was a real joy to be around. Joan first met her husband at a USO dance through a friend. Seven months later they were married on May 30, 1955. She later remarried him again on May 30, 1963. Surviving are Brenda Beal of Klamath and Carol Oquist of Orick, 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was "grandma" to many. She was preceded in death by her mother, May Scroggins; father, Carl Goosy; husband of 43 years, George Oquist; daughters, Ronda, Cynthia, Lori and her only son, Ronnie. “We will never forget you Joan, Mom and Granny.” A small gathering at her church was held on November 14th. Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
