Wreck closes 101 on Friday morning

A wreck early Friday temporarily closed U.S. Highway 101 a half-mile south of the Mill Creek Campground south of Crescent City.

A big rig went off the edge of the road, blocking both lanes of traffic.

The California Highway Patrol said Christopher Robert Fish, 32, of Santa Rosa was driving northbound when he lost control. The truck swerved left, and its trailer swung off the side of the road at about 4 a.m.

The road was blocked for about 20 minutes, but the tow truck that arrived was not able to completely clear the roadway.

The highway was then opened up to one-way traffic.

At 8:55 a.m. a second tow truck arrived and the the highway was closed for another 20 minutes, until the trucks cleared the roadway and pulled the trailer up from the side of the road.

The CHP said Fish was not injured.
