Driver rescued after spending night on road |
Gasquet man’s pickup went over embankment A Gasquet man was rescued after driving over an embankment and spending the night on a forest road, according to the California Highway Patrol. But his dog has not been found and it took authorities two days to locate his 1991 Toyota pickup, which was full of freshly cut wood, the CHP said. John M. Zegart, 52, was driving at about 5 p.m. Tuesday on Forest Service Road 316, 6 miles from Patrick’s Creek Road off U.S. Highway 199, when he lost control, went down a hillside and collided with a tree, the CHP said. Zegart, who sustained moderate injuries, pulled himself from the pickup and then crawled back up the mountainside, the CHP said. He spent the night on the forest road and was found by a passerby at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, the CHP said. The passerby, whose name was not available, then drove him to Patrick Creek Lodge, where emergency personnel were contacted. The passerby was able to point out to the CHP on a map where the truck had gone off the cliff. Zegart was listed in stable condition Friday at Sutter Coast Hospital.
