Bennett shows at Brookings Art Walk today Gasquet artist Rick Bennett has an exhibit at Wright’s Custom Framing, 509 Chetco Avenue in Brookings, throughout the month of January. On display are his newest watercolors, plus several of Arthur Van Deventer’s botanical prints. Besides during regular business hours, an opportune time to view Bennett’s work is during the Second Saturday Art Walk, to be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today. Del Norte High School’s choirs and stage band are having a fundraiser at 7 p.m. today in the multipurpose room. The event is a release party for a cookbook with recipes from music students, and will include a silent auction as well. Admission is $3, for which attendees receive a coupon for $3 off on the purchase of a cookbook.
Del Norte High School Dance presents its second and final annual winter dance concert at 7 p.m. tonight in Crescent Elk Auditorium, 994 G St. About 45 dancers — members of the choreography and production classes — will be performing in “Resolution.” Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for students, and will be available at the door. The Friends of Music will present Trio con Brio, a piano trio from Copenhagen featuring Korean sisters Soo-Jin Hong and Soo-Kyung Hong and Danish pianist Jens Elvekjaer, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Calvary Assembly of God Church, 518 Fir St. in Brookings. The current Art in Public Places exhibit up in the courthouse is DNACA’s 18th annual Juried Multimedia Exhibition, featuring 15 works by local artists. There will be a closing reception for the artists from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday, featuring refreshments and live music, as well as an awards ceremony. This reception is part of a public Crescent City Art Walk, the subject of a larger story on this page. Taste of Honey will be playing music from 7 to 9 p.m. next Saturday, Jan. 16, upstairs in the lounge at the Good Harvest Cafe, 575 Hwy. 101 S. This Brookings-based duo plays “music one can comfortably dine with,” including folk, blues, jazz and romantic tunes. For more information, call 465-6028.
The artist of the month for January at Crescent Harbor Gallery is Brookings-based Sandy Bonney. A sampling of her work is on display through the end of the month at 140 Marine Way, along with pieces by other gallery members. This artist’s favorite medium is pastels, though she also works in oils and watercolor. Winter hours are currently in effect: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The gallery will stay open until 7 p.m. Friday, however, for the Crescent City Art Walk.
LRT’s ‘Doubt’ opens Jan. 22 Lighthouse Repertory Theatre’s production of “Doubt” opens at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 22 in the multipurpose room at Joe Hamilton School, 1050 E St., and will play for two weekends. Other performances will be Jan. 23, 29 and 30 at 7:30 p.m. and Jan. 24 and 31 at 2 p.m. The 2009 movie version of John Patrick Shanley's “Doubt” was nominated for five Academy Awards. This drama is rated PG-13 for mature subject matter. Tickets cost $12 for adults and $8 for children under 18 and seniors over 55, and are available at Del Norte Office Supply and the door. DNACA presents the third performance of its 27th season, the California Guitar Trio, in a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday, Jan. 24 in Crescent Elk Auditorium. Not your usual guitar trio, and not originally from California, these three gentlemen play steel string guitars and hail from Belgium, Utah and Japan. Their whirlwind of instrumental styles fuses jazz, country, originals, classical and even California “surf music.” Tickets cost $18 for general and $12 for students and seniors, and are available at Del Norte Office Supply, Mory’s in Brookings and at the door.
