Thankful for local emergency services This is an expression of gratitude for our local emergency services. I had to call 911 last Thursday twice, once very early in the morning and again later that evening. The fire chief, Steve Wakefield, came both times and was extremely professional, solid and reassuring. The EMTs, Doug, Holly, Willy and Matt, were wonderfully kind and efficient. I didn’t get the names of the EMT team the second time around but they were all fantastic. Doug came by the ER room later that evening and stopped to talk –– just because my husband had been discharged earlier and he didn’t expect to see him back. This experience, while very frightening, made me appreciate our emergency services in a whole new way. Thank you very much and God bless all of you. Shirley Borrego Crescent City
This is in reference to the Jan. 28 letter, “Combining Horses and ATVs is a dangerous situation.” First things first, I am grateful for the tourists that come to town. With that said, if you do not feel safe because the local “teenagers” may spook your “pony,” then stay home. There are many places for horse riders to ride in Del Norte County; try South Beach. However, there is not anywhere for the ATV rider to ride locally. I am excited to hear that this may soon change, not only for my two teenagers but I also enjoy riding the family ATVs. If Tyler Young had been anyone else, the charges would have been felonies. Wonderful Del Norte County, still running on the good ol’ boy system. Michele Bigler White Fish, Mont
